Playable Area

NFHS: Is the area between the bench and the scorer's table usually playable or non-playable? (usually abut 6 feet wide; assume no other obstructions like garbage cans, water coolers, etc.)

Did you ever get a rule/play book? Start with playable area(s).

Playable area

As per 2-1-10 which defines the non-playable court areas, I say yes those areas are indeed playable.

That's what I thought -- but I've had others tell me otherwise and (as a newer official) I was trying to figure it out.

Maybe the person you spoke to was thinking of NCAA rules? That's a non-playable area in my games.
