Improper Libero Replacement?
As always for me, NCAA-W rules:
Libero for serving team is in the game for #35 and is in the Left Back position (V). Serving team wins rally. #35 incorrectly believes that a rotation will occur and enters the court outside the substitution area, intending to replace the Libero who (she thinks) is rotating to the front row. #35 realizes her mistake and immediately leaves the court outside the substitution area. The beckon for serve was not delayed. I can't find this situation specifically mentioned in Delay Sanctions or Libero replacement procedures. Should #35 be sanctioned for entering the court at the incorrect time? |
I can't speak for NCAA but the guidance I've been given on this pertinent to USAV is that if the action didn't cause a delay, there is no need for a delay sanction.

That's also what I decided to do (basically, nothing!). It was just so obvious, I thought I might have overlooked something.

PAVO just put out a call for "unusual situations that could be used for test questions" -- maybe this (and some of the other questions we have had) could be submitted.

If they can fix the situation without us having to fix it for them, and no delay results, there is no sanction. Play on, and be thankful they fixed it.
