Club Season

As a newer member to this forum, and with high school and college seasons coming to an end, I was wondering if there are members on this forum that officiate during club season (Jan-Aug) for AAU or any other organization.

I will work a little bit of usav this year.So does everyone like the net rule?

Heard this morning that some local club coaches are forcing players to sign a document that says that club volleyball is #1 over school winter sports (basketball).

If that's true, that's disappointing.

Are you referring to them being able to touch the net other than the tape? :(

I officiate high school and college volleyball, but am a club director of several AAU teams during club season. The vast majority of tournaments that we have attended the officials will tell us we are playing by high school rules with the net, no touching. The only time that hasn't applied has been at very large tournaments, they follow the AAU rules.

If we did that we wouldn't have any players at all. Our club respects the players when it comes to high school sports. I have players that play basketball, run track and play soft ball. It is incredibly challenging to hold practices and get the rotations perfected when we never know who will be able to be at practice, but we manage. The only thing I ask of them is to provide me a copy of their practice and game schedules so that I can do my best to work around them when scheduling tournaments.

Rich-those club coaches should be embarassed. The players need to be able to enjoy their athletic careers not specialize unless they want to.

This is like the NCAA-W net rules. Not as restrictive as NHFS, but it makes the players have control. I think it's a good change, but it will take a while to get the the R2's at most junior tournaments retrained to the new rules. It took several months when the rule was last changed to get the players and coaches trained what constitutes a net violation.
