Officials Shortages?

Are your areas short of officials? One of our Southern California high school assignors has put out an emergency email to neighboring associations asking for officials on about 8 days.If you are short or barely able to cover matches what recruiting efforts are being explored for next year?

Yes. It is not necessarily that we are short officials but they are starting to be more demanding about days off. I have 2 reliable officials that I can call at a moment's notice and add a game that someone decides they can't make it to. We are in a small area with not enough schools left due to consolidation to make it very profitable. Several of our schools have gone to varsity only. We do not get paid travel expenses so it makes it difficult to send offiicals so far away for reduced pay. I have had to hire officials from neighboring counties to be able to fulfill obligations for Saturday tournaments.

Since I am unable to offer suggestions to you, I look forward to other responses to see what others are doing.

I am a member of one association in Michigan that extends about half the LP. We seem to be short a lot of dates and have a lot of moving things around.
