Haven't been able to find a definate answer to this question that came up at a conference meet last week.

Runner A in the FIRST heat runs a certain time. Runners B and C in the SECOND heat run the same time as runner A. In the second heat runner B is picked ahead of runner C even though they have the same time. Who is tied with who as far as scoring goes?

In absence of a final in this event, sounds like A and B are tied and their points would be divided up. What was the timing technique? Handhelds or FAT?

Timimg was handheld.

Seems odd to me that you have multiple finals-on-time heats.

Was this dual meet or multi-school meet?
I'm sure this varies between states, but in dual meets here, only those in the first heat "score" no matter what the time(s) are for those in subsequent heats. A team is allowed 3 or 4 entries in this first heat depending on track size.

In multi-school meets, there would be trials, semis, then finals as needed.

So which kind of meet was this?
If your area runs multiple time final heats, then as the previous poster indicated, A & B tie for first place and divide the points. C gets third place.

This was a 10 team Conference championship meet. There were prelims and semis in the 100 & 200 but everything else had multiple heats of finals on time.
