I'm interested in becoming a starter/referee for track and field. Just wondering what you experienced folks carry in your bag when you do this job. I'm kind of at a disadvantage since my state association doesn't register track officials and we don't have a local association that I know of. Thanks for any ideas you might have.

Just one question Dylan. What the heck is the WD-40 for? I'm banging my head trying to figure that one out. Thanks.

Keeps the pistols moving parts moving after you might have left it lying around for a few weeks in a damp basement.
Trust me (or anyone who has started), you can forget you did this.
Gun oil will probably be OK too, but good ole WD-40 has worked for me.

I carry a lot more, but then the main reason is I(or the other officials) may be working on the finish line, or at one or more of the field events.

However for starting purposes, I also carry
-a couple of ear protection devices,
-rain gear,
-boots (kept in car),
-orange colored slipon sleeve,
-r/w/y flags,
-hat,
-writing equipment such as pencils, pens or markers
(hopefully types that can write on wet surfaces),
-an extra cylinder for the pistol,
-very small brush to clear gunpowder residue from the pistol.

I'm sure I could think of more things if I had my bag handy.
