ASA sub question

ASA 10U tourney time...coach dad here...top of the 4th inning I report to home team coach and the pu who is solo and in shorts by the way, and he tells me I can't sub until the bottom of the inning because players have to play defense before they can play offense. Again I've only done nfhs and NCAA and I don't remember s restriction like that, I've done a little u-trip slow pitch with a league rule requiring players to play 3 outs on defense if they bat ...

Is there an ASA rule I'm missing, if so please point me to reference, I haven't found anything. I did check the league/tournament exceptions for this event and nothing was mentioned.

No such rule you can sub for a player at any time including in the middle of an at bat.

... and including at the plate meeting right after you have submitted your official lineup.

No shorts permitted in fast pitch in North Texas.

ITB, OC comes to me (as BU) and asks if he can put a sub in for the runner he's going to put on 2B. I say, "sure, but let my partner know about it ". As I'm walking out to my position, I overhear the conversation, and the PU tells OC "you can sub for your runner, but she has to advance one base first"
OC was sure, no problem.
I know I should have intervened...

Not that I have ever heard of, though there have certainly been times I wish there were. :)

Sitting around at the umpire tent during a break at a tournament yesterday. An umpire arrives for the mid-monring "shift". He is parading around in his black compression tights and compression shirt and hat.

I remarked that all he needed was his ball bag and he would be ready to go ;).

Well.... he then said that he once arrived at a baseball game he was assigned to and realized he did not have any of his umpire pants in the car, so he called the game with his umpire shirt, belt & ball bags, and leg guards over his tights. No pants!
