Temporary fence question

Yesterday the tournament was using temporary fencing. The wind was relatively strong and was blowing in from left field. This caused the fence to lean inward at about a 60-70° (where 90° is upright). A hit to left field rolls to the fence in the area where the fence is leaning in.

This got me thinking...

Surely, we can't expect the defenders to root under a collapsed fence for the ball, but where is the threshold for how far the fence is leaning in?

I would say if they can reach w/o moving the fence it's fine, after that if the ball is trapped by the fence or not is the question.
If trapped by the fence, same as ball lodged in any obstacle.

Thanks for the geometry lesson. :p :D

:D After I typed it, I somehow thought some people might interpret 90° as flat to the ground...

You got that right! :D

Of course, but I couldn't pass up the chance. :)

Phew! For a moment there, I thought you were going to ask what would be the call if a fly ball hit the back of the fence that is leaning in toward the field and then caromed beyond it... :p

Ha! Or, hit the back of the fence that is leaning in and then caromed back onto the playing field!

:D

Would defy all laws of physics, but I'd love to see it!

The fence is leaning in, it could hit the attached support and bounce back

I expect you to report the physics calculation of spin that it would take at various heights on the back of the fence at various leaning angles. :)

Well, if we can have TWPs, why not PUPs? (parallel universe plays) ;)
