JV game yesterday:

R1 on 3B, R2 of 2B. 2 out, 2-2 count. Batter tries to check her swing on next pitch which is in the dirt. She fails to hold up and I call it a swing for strike three. Ball gets by F2. Runners take off. F2 retrieves the passed ball and throws toward F1 who is coming to cover home but ball goes by into infield. R1 scores and R2 rounds 3B and heads home as well, scoring before defense can retrieve ball.

All the while clue free batter who is now a batter-runner (remember she swung at pitch in dirt for strike three) is still standing next to batters box. After dust settles light goes on over F2s head and she gets the ball and tags BR who is still quite clue free. Batter-runner is out and the two runs do not score since third out is by batter-runner failing to reach 1B safely.

Offensive team coach needed to hear explanation a couple of times before he got it. :)

Wow, you make them get all the way to 3B before you will allow the runs to score? You're tough!
