I only do FED and USSSA softball which is done by FED rules.

I've noticed on TV during the college world series and this past weeks Little League games that none of the pitchers make a backward step before delivering the ball to the plate. They only use a rocking motion. FED and USSSA allow the backward step. Do these other associations not allow a backward step? What does ASA say about it?

College ball does not allow the rocker step, either. I think you'll find that the higher levels do not allow the rocker step in female ball. Using the rocker step increases the speed by probably 5 mph, maybe more.

backwards step

NSA, ASA and NCAA do not allow a backwards step in womens/girls fastpitch. With most pitchers I've known, once they play NSA or ASA fastpitch and get used to the NO STEP, they never go back to it. I have seen many new pitchers take a short time to adjust when they go from Little League to ASA or NSA tournament teams. Wouldn't it be nice if all of the governing bodies got together and issued the same rule?

Thanks.

FED will probably follow suit eventually.

NFHS deliberately allows more options for the pitcher because they believe that allows more players to pitch. Extensive participation is a goal of NFHS, not pure competition.

TwoBits,
There are many differences between FED and USSSA.

Just to mention a few:
1] pitching subsitution
2] Courtesy Runners
3] Use of Additional player
4] Use of Illegal Courtesey Runner
5] Pop-up slide
6] The bat
7] Slaughter rule

The list goes on.....
