Coupla Interesting Questions

MLB: 2 outs, R3 steals home and touches plate before batter strikes out. Run score? After thinking about this one I think the strike out is the 3rd out as long as the catcher catches the ball..... run doesn't score.

ASA Softball: R2 stealing 3rd, batter swings and makes contact with catcher's thrown ball on follow-through swing but still in batter's box. I think "Intention" was taken out of the rulebook so we've got Interference, dead ball, runner return

Waddaya think?

Probably, but hard to visualize.

I think this couldn't happen

Not sure why you asked this question here, but what the heck. The answer is, it depends. When did R3 touch the plate?

In pro ball, a runner doesn't achieve his next base on a steal while the pitcher is delivering a pitch unless he touches that base before the pitcher even starts his motion. So in your play, if R3 took off and touched home while the pitcher was looking in for the sign, he scores. But if the pitcher had started any motion to deliver the pitch before R3 touches home, he doesn't score. If the batter had fouled off the pitch instead of striking out, R3 would have to return to third.

Oh, and it doesn't matter if the third strike was caught or not. As long as the batter is put out before reaching first base, the run doesn't count. On an uncaught third strike, if the catcher throws the batter-runner out at first base, then R3's steal is for naught.
