Compression testing

Was very surprised, small nationals, only 18 teams and this was the result of bat checks by the compression tester. Most of them older bats, but very intersting that 2 of the bats were not only fairly new, but were same model and both from same team.

Doesn't surprise me at all! I had a coach at the National I was at actually say "I was surprised we didn't get any of our bats taken at compression testing. Guess we need to get them a little hotter, I mean I want to stay legal but I want to walk the line a little closer than we did. If we don't have any bats get thrown, we aren't close enough to the edge."

What can you say but WOW.....

Not sure what ASA can do to stop it, but just as soon as nationals were over, all of these bats are right back in use and will continue to be used until they are compression tested again.

RKB - I also heard about a bat at your national that had a 6 inch crack in it that was passed by the visual pre-tournament inspection AND the compression test....it was only found by a fluke.....

If its the bat I saw the crack wasn't anywhere near 6" long. It was a 2 piece bat that cracked just above the joint and was maybe 3/4-1" long. In fact the guy they gave it to to take up to umpire room couldn't find the crack. As he was turning it I spotted it and was barely visible. That's the only bat I'm aware of that was pulled after inspections and it very well may have cracked after it was inspected.
