Can the coach play any defensive player on the bench as a
position?

Huh!?!?!?

You are kidding, right?

Only if you are using the DP/DEFO, then any player can play "bench" WHILE the DP plays her position.

Thank you, heres what happened the coach on the other team had 9 players to start the game,in the 4th inning he told the ump that he was going to play his 3rd basemen in the dugout cause she did'nt feel good so I said oh shes coming out as injurded and the umpire said no that he is playing her on the bench and that he could play his defence any where he wanted to, the ump said he could play her in the parking lot or in the portapotty if he wanted to. I had no problem with that but he told the ump that she was'nt feeling so to me she was injured, witch he finaly admitted.
What he was tring to do was to avoid th out when her name came up to bat.

I certainly hope this wasn't an ASA game, because if it is, that umpire has no idea what he is talking about.

ASA (FP) 6.5.A
ASA (MP) 6.5.A
ASA (SP) 6.4.A

All require that prior to any pitch, all defensive players must be stantioned in fair territory except for the catcher who must be within the confines of the catcher's box.

Last time I checked, the dugout was not in fair territory.

Little league also say all players must be anywhere in fair territory except for the catcher.

Well, next time I get hot, and tired behind the plate, I think I'll go sit in the shaded bleachers with a cold drink, and call balls and strikes from there. If you believe the spectators, it must be easier to see them from there anyway! Hey blue, are you blind?

As do USSSA and Dixie!

bluezebra Fri Jul 04, 2003 02:57pm

ALL softball and baseball rule books state that only the catcher may be in foul territory before the pitch is released.
