Clear communication w/partner-not

3-2 count, checked swing on ball 4, my (PU) partner steps to the left of F2 and points directly at me. Fully anticipating this, (as the batter, IMO, did not check her swing), I give the strike signal.
Batter walks back to dugout, no complaints from base coach, either.

Later, partner advises me he was not going to me for help, but showing the "walked" batter the general direction to 1B.

Hey, an out's an out, right?

Why is he pointing to 1B? Did the batter not know the direction to 1B?

Maybe being a little over-enthusiastic. Besides that, a pretty much flawless 8 games in 100+ temps...

OK, we only had high 90s.

BTW, how do you "communicate" to the PU when he does not cover 3rd?
- wave
- point
- yell
- call time & meet

- block ;) :)

The fist tournament I worked outside of my local area, as a 16 year old, many moons ago. I had a plate umpire point to first on a 3-2 count. I rung her up and he stopped the game and told me that he was pointing to first base for the batter not an appeal. After the game the UIC, asked about it and when he explained he was told by the UIC that if they are playing softball they should learn where the bases are from their coach, not the umpires.

I had a plate umpire burn me like that one time. 3-2 count, I'm in "A", pitch comes in, batter makes some bat movement....and partner comes up with a big point right at me (well, actually at first base)...because he called it a ball.

What really sold it to me was that this was one of those guys who liked to announce pitch locations. So, along with his big point to first, he was saying, "That's too LOW". Combined with the point, the LOW sounded like GO, as in, "Did she GO?".

I rang her up!

In one day???? 8 games????
:eek::eek::eek:
Fast pitch or slow?
(For some reason they tell me slow pitch is easier...

I figured he meant the weekend and FP (female player), which led into my comment about temp.

What was the DC doing during all this?
