When is F2 out of catcher's box
 

I had an F2 setting up with most of her for on the back line of the batter's box and the point of her foot actually in it. At what point is F2 considered to be out of her box?

Most of her left foot...

When she's out of the box.

I think this would be like all other line issues, on the line is within the box. So if any part of her foot was still on the lines that define the catchers box then the catcher is still within the box.

Like Dave said, when she has one foot on the ground completely out of the box.

Was she in a position to possible obstruct the batter or where she could be injured by the batter's swing? If not, don't care.

So you are going to ignore the rule? Any others you want to ignore?

What if she was doing it on a pitch out to gain an advantage? Ignore that too?

Do you officiate basketball by any chance?

This is a call that should NEVER (ok, rarely) be made.

Why?

The rule says the pitcher shall not deliver the pitch until "all available defensive players are positioned in fair territory, except the catcher who must be in the catcher’s box."

If you see this violation, you hold up the pitch. If you don't see the violation, you can't make the call, can you? I can see a last minute step out just before the pitch resulting in a call, but, as the OP states it, "setting up" outside of the box? Hold up the pitch, and instruct the catcher to get in the box.

The original question involves a catcher with her foot on the line of the batter's box.

It has been established that this is legal positioning for F2.

I read Irish's post to be saying that if the catcher is so positioned (ie: with a foot on the lines of the box), then he's not going to worry about that. No one should, because it's legal. But if there also happens to be a safety or possible obstruction issue due to F2's otherwise legal positioning, then you "worry about it" and address it.

He's not saying that if the catcher is illegally positioned, he's going to ignore it.

How about you providing a citation of what rule you think I'm chosing to ignore?
