I kinda lean towards SC UMP (Dan) & Kono's thinking as well as DTTBrown.
So, foot, ball, glove? SAFE Ball, glove, foot? OUT Ball, glove, ball/foot----go with Kono's answer .......or If it's the last out, and I'm about to pass out>>>>>>OUT!!! and I run to the car!! He he he he :D |
Another suggestion a partner gave when we where yacking in between games was to just yell very sternly, while pointing emphatically, "TIE!!!"
Then just step back and let the players figure it out. |

 Now this one I would really like to be present when called. glen Hell, I may even try it myself  |
Seems like we all have different opinions in what constitutes a "tie" and who makes the best play and other factors. When I make this call, I tend to get and out. This is just my method and the method that most umps in our association us as well. I remember the first organized umpire meeting that I ever attended, about 12 years ago, the clinic leader made it a point to tell us that there are NO TIES in baseball/softball. THE TIE GOES TO THE UMP...GET AN OUT!

There are no such thing as ties.
I look for one thing and one thing only. Did the runner beat the play? Yes = safe, No = out. |
