High School Softball Question

If a batter starts out batting left handed and then after 1 pitch wants to switch over to right hand to bat, is this legal? I know it happens in baseball but didn't know if softball allowed this or if Legal.

Perfectly legal as long as the batter doesn't disconcert the pitcher while she is pitching. Dave

Without being to wordy, it's legal as long as she doesn't do it while the pitcher is in position ready to pitch.

And when it's illegal, i.e. when the pitcher has taken a position on the pitcher's plate, the penalty is that the batter is out.

Had to check the rule book [ASA at the time] when a fellow blue made that call during the State Tournament. He had it right!

And in case you ever hear, "She can't switch with two strikes" that is nonsense also. That's perfectly legal as well.
