66 year old softball player had a heart attack after running the bases tonight at my first game.

He wasn't breathing for awhile and finally they got a heartbeat and breathing.

Someone said they went to the hospital to check on him and he got out of ER and was in intensive care.

I never saw a heart attack up close. It wasn't pretty. Makes you think about how short life really is.

Wow, that sounds pretty scary. How did the rest of the game go?
I had a game earlier this year with a fairly severe injury to a baserunner's knee - it was pretty ugly ( the dislocated knee). Once the rest of the game got underway it was almost as if no one really wanted to be there - almost total silence. Guess everyone's minds were on the injured player.

had a ball come at the third baseman last year hit him right in the heart. Luckily this particular league had an AED (automated electric defibulator) League Administrator came out administerd the shocks and a few minutes later paramedics arrived. Thank goodness for technology

I wasn't going to finsh that game for anything! It's rough starting a game back up after a severe injury like a broken leg etc. let alone a heart attack!!

One of the first years I umpired, I ended up umpiring a church league game that my father was playing in. He snapped his leg sliding into 3B with a triple. The game was delayed for over half an hour getting an ambulance there. That was over 30 years ago and the memory is crystal clear on it.

Another game, the year that they were using Titanium bats, I saw a runner get his face destroyed by a line drive. The game was delayed well over an hour getting the medical folks there.

I restated both games when we were able to.
