As umpires who do girls' fast pitch are well aware, the teams often make up creative cheers for themselves.

Thought you all might enjoy two that have caught on around here:

1: (After a walk)

Hail Mary, full of grace,
Ball four, take your base!
Yay, [batter's name].

and

2: (After a foul that looked like a possible hit)

Holy cow, that's a foul,
MOOOOve it over!

I'm glad to see the girls are incorporating their religious education into their play.

OTOH, how do you know? Maybe they are Hindu?

greymule Mon Jun 09, 2003 03:58pm

Hindu? Very possible. In one large nearby township, one-fifth of the population is from India, and plenty of their FP softball players have names like Anu, Pralur, Vinita, and Dipali.

How about this one?

Pitcher's gotta wedgie....go wedgie, go wedgie, go.
Pitcher wants to pick it.....go wedgie, go wedgie, go.

I am not making this up. I heard it several times during this season, in all age groups.
I didn't really know what to think and I didn't prohibit it.
I did put an immediate stop to the "Pitcher's gotta big butt" chant, the one and only time I heard it this year, though. For the record.....she did. :-)

Shoulda been......

Pitcher's gotta wedgie....go wedgie, go wedgie, go.
Pitcher wants to pick it.....go pitcher, go pitcher, go.

It actually made me laugh out loud the first time I heard it.

Dang...I wish we were that creative and funny when we used to do chants.

Somebody ought to write a book! combine it with the funny umpire stories thread.

They worship cows? Big Macs..........

Yeah

I don't worship cows, but I married one.

Well this is neither the time or place for lessons on Eastern religion and the difference between who worhips cows and who has a global respect for all life...

But with that being said, I need to inform you that of all my Hindu friends, I have never seen one of them dress a cow in a banana hula skirt and purple sunglasses.

Perhaps a llama, but never a cow.

I first heard the "MOOOve it over" cheer about six weeks ago in a high school play off game. I started laughing and commented to the catcher on it.

I heard one later from a solo cheer-er that I also loved. I forget the standard, something about "If you don't like it, then foul it off now." After one fouled off the batter's instep, the soloist shouted but then changed to regular speaking tone:
<font size="+2">"If you don't like it, then...</font>...um... well just hit yourself in the foot with it."
