Forgot her name....Nelson?? Saw some of her shots, what a bat! Could not believe UCLA put her on in the top 9, I was telling my wife before the IBB, " they gotta pitch to her"(BB mentality). Kyrea Goel(??) threw a gem, that women is awesome.

Now, question... I watched the Oklahoma-Alabama game (did that PU call some funky's late in the game, or what??)But, aside from that, does NCAA use the "international tie breaker"?, I believe FED does it after 9, who else??

Steve M Thu May 29, 2003 03:38am

This year, Fed leaves using the tie breaker up to individual states. In Pennsylvania, we do not use it.

The NCAA suggests that it be used beginning in the tenth inning AND states that it's use can also be determined by conference ruling or tournament decision.

The different districts decided at the pre season
meetings on whether or not to utilize the ITB and
to date, none have ever chosen to do so. They all
just play them out. Had a 16 inning and a 14
inning game this year.

BTW, that is in East Texas

Which is why it shouldn't be an option and this is just one more reason I don't care for Fed rules. If it is a rule, it should be a rule for all. Not a pick and choose as you please.

But then again, I'm not a fan of NFHS being in the rule business as it is.

In the NCAA, ITB is used by some conferences but not many as most coaches hate it. The rulebook says it "May" be used if both coaches agree, preferably starting in the 10th inning(Not a direct quote, I don't have a rulebook handy).

Nelson didn't bat in the 9th.

Actually the Nelson girl didn't bat in the 9th. She walked in the 7th inning (3rd time) and was replaced by a pinch runner. She would have batted in the ninth if she was not replaced. The announcers commented on the move in the 7th saying the Cal coach made the right move (to attempt to score the winning run in the 7th.)

JEL Thu May 29, 2003 09:25am

Veronica, a.k.a. Ronnie. Dont remember which opposing team, maybe UCLA coach said don't be surprised if we walk her with bases loaded! Yeah, what a bat!

You are correct

Central Coast Section, Ca. 3 years ago this frosh player, Monica Abbott, throws 17 innings of no-hit ball, her counterpart does the same, game suspended due to to non-daylight.0-0, now next time the teams meet, continue suspended game, then play the regular scheduled game.NOT so fast! 17 more innings for a 1-0 finish, regular game never happened, this was with ITB !!!

Keep your ears and eyes open, this young women is awesome, at 6'3" and tossing at 65 and well above at times. We be seeing her on ESPN, sooner than later.

Another comment, these women can PLAY! I have umped BB for ten years(all levels, cept pro) but this game just amazes me....and that ball aint "soft"....LOL

Pretty much the same in North Texas!

Del-Blue Thu May 29, 2003 08:33pm

In Delaware, for NFHS ITB is used when teams are playing within conference. Starts in the 10th. Teams playing across conferences must agree during ground rules. Don't remember if I have ever used it for NCAA, except for early season in the first game of a DH when there could be a problem with darkness.

Does this Abbott play for an AFA or ASA team..Which
if either. We will have fourteen teams from Ca. in
the 18U Nationals this year. Just wondering if she
may be one of them...Will watch for her.
