(ASA) I'm aware of the rule that if the offense has equipment in the field of play and it interfers the result is a dead ball and the player whom is being played on is out.

Does that include the bat from the original hit? In this case no one from the offense picked up the bat so when the throw came in it hit the bat.

Fed specifically states that the batters bat and the catcher's helmet, when discarded, are not to be considered lose equipment(unless the player throws them and interfers with a play).

All codes agree as far as I know.

Glen,
Roger is right. ASA's book sez that the batter's discarded bat is now part of the field, unless the batter intentionally places the bat where it will interfere with play.

ASA specifically excludes equipment being legally used in the game at the time (POE 17).
