My community just switched to the Dixie Girls org. We have three adjoining communities with separate leagues which comprise the area division.
I coach a 13-18 combined team.
One of the league's president is doing his utmost to force what is technically an illegal team into the fray. After all the teams were selected and season schedules published, an entire team which consists of mostly high school players was allowed by him to join the league. According to Dixie Girls, once the "team selection process" has been completed, no other players are eligible (unless sick or relocated). This team has been declared ineligible by the regional director with the backing of the state and national reps. First ordered to re-draft, he fixed it so all the girls ended up on the same teams. Most of his own league members oppose him but this guy and the team just will not go away.
Before these facts were out, my team got smoked 27-5 in what I consider to be the worst display of "sportsmanship" I've ever seen in a recreational league. Up 15-0 after 2, they actually changed pitchers and walked in a few runs so the 15 run mercy rule wouldn't be called. They then brought in another HS pitcher and continued the onslaught.
There is no question here, just wanted to put this in front of all to show that regardless of all the great people that step up and give the athletes their all and teach by example, there is still at least one snake in the grass who just doesn't get it.

As a coach, I would refuse to play this team. The league could schedule me to play all day long, I would hold practice instead. They can have a forfeit.

We decided that about the second inning of the first game, before we knew the full story.

As an umpire I've run across the "let'em score so we can play more" a few times. As soon as I hear it or have undeniable proof I call the coach over and let him/her know in no uncertain terms that if it happens I'll be declairing a forfeit and his/her team will be on the short end. Detrimental to the sport and unnecessary risk of injury if they ask how I can do it. Jim
