Last time I checked the ASA rule book for coed slowpitch, there were defensive positioning rules which required, among other things, that the catcher and pitcher not be the same gender. Is this rule still in effect? The umpire last night in our local league, which follows ASA rules, thought not. I can't find the ASA rules online and the coach is out of town, so I am hoping someone can help. THANKS!

Still in effect. The rule is ASA 4-1-C-5, which reads...
A team shall consist of players in the following positions. ... Coed Slow Pitch. Ten players: (five male and five female) with the following positioning requirements: two males and two females in both the infield and the outfield, and one male and one female as pitcher or catcher. |
Quote:
The infield, outfield and battery must be of mixed gender. Unless local league rules supercede this, that's the way it is. Also, they MUST play 4 in the outfield positions & 4 in the infield positions unless the team is playing shorthanded with no EPs. |
Thanks for the info. A temporary brain lock on the part of the blue, I guess. No biggie, since we won the game, but I imagine some of our more tightly wound players might have gotten cranky if we had lost!
