I umpire in a youth girls Fast Pitch league.

Our league allows one on-the-mound conference with the pitcher per inning.

Out of interest:

Is one conference per inning typical for you other youth league umpires ?

Do you charge a conference if the backcatcher goes to talk to the pitcher, or just if a coach does ?

Bobrix,
Most leagues follow a set of rules put out by one of the sanctioning bodies - ASA, Fed, ...

As to how may defensive conferences are allowed per inning - they can all have as many conferences as they want, but there are consequences for exceeding limits.

ASA restricts defensive conferences to three per game. They could be all in one inning. But the fourth conference results in the present pitcher being removed from that position for the remainder of the game.

Only the coach, unless a coach talks to another fielder and that fielder goes directly to the pitcher.

Is there a "frontcatcher"?

Bob

In a lot of youth leagues, my shins and thighs seem to be the backcatcher when the frontcatcher is not doing her job!

Thanks Glen, but if you could see my thighs right now, you would know that my jesting comes with a price. Just started calling some rec games last week to fill in the gaps between high school play-offs. (Ouch!)
