What's the "lost-his-helmet" play?

Fla State playoffs A is down 2 with 20 secs 1st and goal. B stops run during which A QB lost his helmet. By rule clock stops for him to put his helmet back on with 8 or 9 secs. B coach wants to know why clock has stopped and calls over Umpire for explaination. A takes advantage of coach B keeping the Umpire occupied and puts his fieldgoal unit on the field for a successful try to win game. B's parents, coaches and administrators all lose touch with reality. The fact that A would have simply spiked the ball to set up the fieldgoal or that B's coach delayed the Umpire from putting the ball back in play in the 1st place completely escaped them. They had a long discussion over on the football forum about it and not one post felt the folks at B had any argument. Jim
