Welcome to the board Duke

Maine, huh, when do you get to start the NFHS season?
I was stationed in Bangor way back in the 50's and it
snowed in late April that year. I know it is pretty
in the fall, but cold.

Whiskers:
NFHS season started this past week. Had a scrimmage last week and hit it lucky as it was 70. Next day got down to 35 and the morning was 19. First "real" game of the season for me is tomorrow afternoon. College season starts the first weekend in April. Didn't get any games in though until last weekend. My first game was cancelled and my next college game is this coming Thur. We handle a school about 70 north of where I live and have done games up there in gloves while it was snowing. Got to love Maine weather....

Hey, you never know about God's sense of humor. There may be a horrific storm one week and the Rio Grande may turn North. Then you would all be working for mucho peso. Si?

Si, Senor Miguel. Es posible. Entonces serÃ*a árbitro internacional verdadero! Verdad???

Way down south in Dixie

Here's what we get in Alabama:

Varsity (2-man): $30 plus mileage (usually a set fee based on distance from association meeting site, from $5 to $30).
JV (2-man): $27.50 plus mileage.
MS (2-man): $22.50 plus mileage.

Any assignment fees are paid by the schools directly to the local association (of course we have 3 or 4 competing associations in this area).

AHSAA dues: $30.00
Local dues: $30.00 (Used to pay treasurer, assignment officer, and end of season banquet)

Maximum fees are set by the state (and apparently low). All officials must be a member of a local association recognized by AHSAA.

What do you all think about getting our Congressmen to make officiating amateur sports tax-exempt?
I guess the higher levels where you can actually make a living, like Div 1 basketball, would be an exception. Maybe it could be based on a maximum percentage of your total income or on the level of play. It just seems that most of us are minimally compensated, just enough to cover expenses, but are also providing a semi-charitable community service that could justify the change. If it resulted in fewer increases of officiating fees, it would also save schools, local governments, etc. some money, adding to the justification.

Just what we need - yet another group who benefits from our horribly complex tax structure. If you want to donate your time and money, donate it. If you don't, don't.

Absolutely NOT! The government already has it's nose in places I and the Constitution don't believe they should be. So, I sure as hell am not going to give them additional reasoning to get more intimate with my life and the way I live it.
