The reason I am on so late is, I just finished a 16 inning game between to really
good ball clubs. I was on 1st [running 3-man], and in the first 10 innings, I
went to B position twice. There was not one call questioned during the
entire game. A few of the usual moans and groans, but neither coach came out.
52 K's in the game. 28 by the losing pitcher and 24 by winner. Top of 16th
1st batter reaches on a slap pop-up that F3 drops, Flood gates open, and when
inning finished, 5 runs scored. Kinda sad, cause losing pitcher did not
deserve to lose that way. Both F1's had good speed and rise balls, both stayed
to outside corner very effectively. One of the "bangers" I had was when the
SS for losing team dove for, caught and threw a slidding BR out. It was close,
so I used Joels theroy of which player made the best effort. [grin]

Don't you just love calling softball. Especially two games in one.

Not like that. This is why I prefer SP. Poor umpire at 3B was probably praying for lefthanded hitters just for a possible check-swing to keep him/her awake.

Since you went to the B only twice in 10 innings, I assume there was no ITB..http://www.mansun-nl.com/smilies/thinkerg.gif..and please don't slap your forehead and say, "damn, I knew we forgot something!"

I would love to umpire where more than just state semis and finals gets 3 umps and games get played at night with spectators.

16 innings of softball (FP) is not necessarily longer or less interesting than 7 innings of counting home runs.
Ok, just for you :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

Mike,

Most of our districts opted to play'em out. No ITB unless
voted on by majority of the teams in the district. This
district has nine teams in it, with the top five being very
close to each other. Two strong teams will not make the
playoffs this year, that would have gone last year before the
realignment of 2003. Was asked by both of the coaches if I
would be available during the playoffs. Our associations allows
coaches to choose their umpires. If asked for, the assignor
is suppose to give them that umpire if s/he available.
Both of these teams went two rounds in the playoffs
last year.

Didn't see any smilies here, Cec! If your comment is serious, you better open that window again!
