I've seen many ASA softball batters "erase"
the back portion of the batter's box lines---
when I think they are expanding the box-
i ask for their bat- draw a back line in the
sand and let them know- that is the line !

There are a lot of people would suggest you NEVER draw a line and I would probably be one of them.

I just tell them to move up and hold up play until they do. A batter being out of the box is a judgment call and I'd rather keep it that way. I never go looking for that call and when I make it, there is no question. I always give the benefit of the doubt to the batter.

However, draw one line and you will not be able to make another call concerning the box without drawing another.

Gotta agree with Mike on this one......Drawing a line with the bat is just asking for trouble. In NCAA ball there is a rule that says we can instruct the grounds crew to reline the field. However, I have never had a coach that wants that to happen....No matter how much they may complain.
