Winter ball in Florida

I have a new umpire in my association that has the ability to spend most of the winter in Florida. He is looking for some umpiring opportunities (10U/12U/14U) or some junior high ball.

Please PM me if you have any thoughts or contacts that I could present to him.

Thanks for helping!

Actually, this umpire is free to choose his location, so he would be willing to go where the opportunities are available.

He is pretty green and would need a fair amount of mentoring.

Here is the ASA State UIC info. The panhandle has a ton of softball with a bunch of different organizations. You are also close enough to call in Georgia and Alabama too.

That would mean being in a few different organizations. But if he is serious, it could get him a lot of ball.

The only other issue though is it does get much cooler in the panhandle than in the southern part of the State.

The City of Orlando and Hillsborough County (the county Tampa is in) both had WONDERFUL ASA programs when I was there in the 90's. I have not kept up with them but would imagine they still have good training programs, especially for new folks.

I personally loved living just outside of Tampa in Thonotosassa, and had some very nice experiences there on the ball field. (A few rough ones, too.)

Check out Hillsborough County Government Online which had one document noting:
16,200 adult softball games for 780 teams
1,970 games of youth softball for 168 teams
