We had this happen to us last summer during a 16-under ASA game.

Batter tips catchers glove with swing. Ump calls catcher interference awards the base. We thought nothing of it besides thats like the 2nd time our catcher has ever been called for it.

Next time same batter is up, pitch is thrown, its way high, catcher has to stand to made catch. Batter jumps up and backwards towards the catcher while swinging at the pitch. I saw this as trying to cause catcher interference. Ump didn't call anything, don't think he was brightest one in the first place. Is there a call you can make in this situation?

dani,

Sort of a HTBT deal, but if the batter was making an all
out effort to contact the ball, and I mean legally,
[not stepping out of box or intentionally interfering with
F2], then all we have is an attempt at hitting the ball.
Your post did not state any runners were attempting to advance
soooooo. Nothing that I can see [read] into your play.

Yes, Dani, there is a call

IF - the umpire saw what you saw - then his (her) options range from a gentle warning to ejection for USC. But that is a big IF. You obviously are biased; it was your teammate that was called for obstruction (not interference), and she just never gets this called on her! It was the same batter, and in your mind, she was trying to make contact with your catcher. You build a nice case, but that is not necessarily what the umpire saw. And to accuse the ump of incompetetance may be unfair.

I was watching a college basketball game today and I saw our home team guy get clobbered. "You Idiot!" I am screaming. "Why wasn't that a foul?" But the referee, only a few feet away from the action, obviously saw the play different. We were both watching the same game, but he had a different view point; a different angle, and (supposedly) was operating without any filters (ie., home team love) to affect his call.

Next time you play that team, mention your concerns to the umpire. When that batter comes up, have your catcher back off a little so if the batter really tries to make contact it will be obvious to the ump.
