Under Definitions - Defensive conference - added:
"2. A defensive player approaches the dugout and receives instructions." Until I hear what is said at the clinic, my assumption will be anytime the game is delayed by a defensive player entering foul ball territory or the catcher leaving the catcher's box to receive instructions from the dugout, you ring up a conference. Doing so is a delay in the game since you cannot have a pitch without all defenders save the catcher in fair territory and the catcher in the box. New rule book's equipment section is half shadowed with new rules. |
Sounds like that would be the correct interpretation. Keep us informed on what you find out Mike. I can already hear the coaches whining.....

Mike,
Have you out any further reading on the Defensive Conference being charged when a player approaches the dugout and receives instructions? There is nothing noted in the 2003 ASA Umpire Clinic Guide Booklet. Thanks, glen |

I will not receive my flip chart until next Thursday in OKC. I'm sure they'll cover the new rule in a new rules session. |
