Rain, rain, and more rain.
I live in Trumbull County in NE Ohio, and our NFHS season started March 28th. Today is April 25th, and I have worked a grand total of 3 games. I'm scheduled every day this week, and the weather service is calling for rain every day. This has been the worst spring I can remember. How about you guys, weatherwise? :(

I'm in Columbus and it's been the same story here. Some teams have told me they've had 2/3 to 3/4 of their games cancelled. I've lost about 2/3 of my games due to bad weather.
Last forecast I saw called for rain 9 of the next 10 days. I can remember some bad springs in the past, but this one is shaping up to be perhaps the worst. |
We've had a cool start to the season, but not particularly wet. I've had one game rescheduled due to rain, but will likely have a reschedule game rescheduled again tomorrow (according to forecast).
|
I went 10 days between games and I usually work 4 to 5 times a week. Worst spring in southern Minnesota in a long time.
|
OK, I guess I feel better, only 10 rainouts so far. :)
|
15 rainouts and counting.
|
Better than $2500 and counting here.

We are praying for rain in the Houston area. I have only had one rainout on a HS scrimmage game this year and they probably cancelled it more for the wind and cold than the rain.

I sit here reading this thread and wonder what the big deal is...
And what's this "R" word you all speak of? That's Liquid Sunshine, people. :D Actually, it's been pretty bad for us here as well. Personally, I've had 30 assignments since 3/15, and 16 of them have been rainouts. :( |
My first season with zero rainouts. A VERY mild sprinkle before the first game exactly once. Our problem is awful dust from the wind and dry field, and the fires that are so far luckily not that close yet. NO rain. Send yours my way, please. We're dyin' here.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for today. I'm FINALLY scheduled to return to the field after my ankle surgery, and the clouds are all around.

Life in the desert....
I have lost three college DHs because of the threat of rain!
Each of these DH were scheduled on a day with a forecast of rain, the home team decided to move the games to a different day earlier in the week when I was not available. :( As it turned out, each of the DHs could have been played on the original day scheduled! |
It's a big enough story around here that it was the featured article on the front page of the paper today...

I think the Dallas/FW metroplex finally got some rain.....but it may have stayed west of them. Caused some power issues here on the coast in the last few days due to salt building up on power line insulators on the island and on the mainland. Usually, normal rainfall will wash this build-up off and keep things running smoothly. TAPPS (private school) playoffs have already started and the Texas UIL playoffs start on Friday 4-29. Joel |
