Just had the slow pitch game from hell!!!
Neither pitcher could throw a strike...top of last inning visitors down 7...they score 16 runs!!!! Ugh!!! Pitcher from visiting team has been complaining about balls and strikes all game. They hang on to win.
After the game I walk up to the pitcher and say "I'm not trying to be a d*ck, but can you tell me the ASA strike zone?" His response; "I've never pitched before in my life." I wanted to smack him!!! Instead I say: "That's all I needed to know." and walked off. Just venting...Oh, the game lasted almost 90 minutes. |
I feel your pain, man.
I had one league playoff game where the home team was down 14 runs going into the bottom of 7. They came back to win it, and the majority of hits were singles. Only a few doubles, and maybe one or two triples. Took FOREVER! Naturally, the visitors' loss was my fault. ;) At least they couldn't accuse me of wanting to get out of there early. |
Once after having worked 8 SP games, I was prevailed upon to do "just one more" because an ump had taken ill. It was a lower-level loser's bracket game, but both teams had won twice earlier in the day.
The first 48 pitches were balls nowhere near the zone. I could have called them from left field. After a hit and some more walks, the inning ended with the visitors up 16. Later that evening (much later), the home team pulled the game out in the bottom of the seventh. In another tourney, as his team took the field, the pitcher approached me and asked, "How do you pitch?" I had another game in which the visiting team hit the first 17 pitches for hits. They swung at everything, including pitches I had already called illegal. |
Slow pitch is a world unto its own.

There you go, the reason for the 1-1 count. HIT THE BALL!!!
Those 48 straight balls produced 12 walks. That tournament now uses a 1-1 count, so 48 straight balls would produce 16 walks today. I was once BU in a SP game in which I had no calls. Zero. Maybe with a couple of those swinging teams, I'd have a chance at a zero-call game as PU. |
