nfhs situation.

The question came up yesterday at a tournament. The ball is dead and a pinch runner is coming off the bench, the runner at first leaves before the sub gets there. Is the runner out for leaving the base early or do you let it go?

How can one make any call during a dead ball situation?

As noted, the ball is dead! Unless this was a WWF-sanctioned game under tag-team rules, I don't see how this even comes up.

Seriously??

Seriously??

Dead ball, and someone thinks there can be a call?

Seriously??

Without knowing anything about WWF tag team rules, I can't think of a thing to add. Oh I know, if asked, encourage it to keep the game moving. :)

I agree I couldn't think of a way but my partner was seriously asking so I wanted to be positive!

By the way Steve I realize you must be the worlds best softball umpire but my partner was new and I've been away from the game for four years so I wanted to be sure before I told him the final answer.I thought good veterans would treat any question with respect.Instead your attitude will intimidate young officials as people like you do during association meetings. So much for no stupid questions.

Come on now, this is a pretty gentle forum. :)

It seems to me the OP implied the answer was already known, so no offense at the poster. :)

I would say that you answered your own question.

Just for fun, I almost did - then I remembered that there is no rule which restricts a runner from leaving a base before the pitch is released!;)
