This year's tricky ASA question

Question 27. Umpires have the option of wearing a t-shirt under the powder blue or navy blue polo uniform shirt.

The rule:
F. A t-shirt is optional to wear under the powder blue or navy blue polo
shirt; If a t-shirt is worn, it must be a white t-shirt under the powder
blue polo shirt and navy t-shirt under the navy blue polo shirt.

I think I need to pick both true and false answers on the answer sheet.

True because simply stated, we do have the option.

False because the "question" doesn't go on to stipulate conditions based on color of shirt worn.

Opinions?

I think the question is simply "true." You DO have the option of wearing a t-shirt (i.e.: you are not required to wear one). However, (and this is not what the question is asking) if you wear one, it has to be the proper color based on which polo shirt you are wearing.

The question would have been more clear had they left the color of polo shirt out of the wording.

I learned a long time ago to not read more into the questions than is there.

As the question is worded, the answer is true. The option to wear a t-shirt is there.

These tests are as much a reading test as they are a rules test.....

Why would anyone even ask a question about that on a TEST? :(
I'm tempted to not even answer such things.

At my National last year, our UIC made it very clear he wanted us to wear white t-shirts under our powder blues. No option was given.

I guess he didn't want to have a visual display of "Welcome to the Jungle."

Yeah, I remember the days when it was important to find out before the tournament if the UIC preferred crew neck versus V-neck.

I have always had the opinion that it looks better, handles sweat better, and is actually cooler, to wear a T-shirt.

In that regard, Under Armour is great stuff. I wear it under my powder blue shirt all the time. Keeps my shoulders from breaking out into a rash when it's 98 degrees with 100% humidity here in NC.

I don't think it is that difficult.

The question asks if wearing a t-shirt is an option for the umpire. The first four words of the quote answers the question.

Now, if they asked about the color (referring to the t-shirt), then I would agree.

Nor do I.

I guess it's just that we have been tricked so many times on tests, that such a blatantly obvious one is suspicious.
