After 7 years of doing NFHS ball and this year getting picked to do Class A Districts, I am preparing myself for next fall when I am going to apply to do the State tournnament. In Nebraska we do games using the 3 man system. Can someone tell me where to get a video or CD Rom showing the proper mechanics for the 3 man. Just as a side bar, I umpire for love of the game not for money, but they do pay $45.00 a game per umpire for State and $40.00 per umpire for Districts. Thanks, Dave

Dave,
Don's advise is good and here is another. The group in Arizonia has a great site. It inclues a good printable layout of the three-man mechanics. http://www.cactusumpires.com/ Go to the Umpires go here menu and it is listed along with a lot of other good information. Good luck with your District assignment and State playoff. http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/Gif/papa.gif glen |
done right----
3 umpire mechanics is great---- I'll never forget working a sectional
play-off at the 3rd base slot and getting hung out to dry because the 1st base and home plate umpires did not rotate when they should have---- I'm at 2nd base for a call--- ball gets away and the runner takes off for 3rd----- I look over and see NO ump is there !!! not fun making a close call on the run !! make sure all 3 guys are on the "right page' and have fun !! |
You're right, I've been hung out to dry at ASA Nationals by umps that shouldn't have been there.
On a brighter note---the cactus umpire site (Phoenix, Az) is a great site for all kinds of umpiring. I've had the pleasure to work with 3 of their folks, 2 women and 1 man. See 'ya on the field! |
For NCAA umpires, we are encouraged to review... http://www.epicsoftware.com
While NCAA mechanics are a little different than NFHS and ASA, the basics are the same. I think I paid $20 for it and was good to review and refresh. Kellerumps |
