ASA Rules Clinic for Teams

I have developed a clinic designed especially for teams, coaches, players and taking it to market for 2011.

It is in ppt form. Purpose is to better educate coaches on what goes on and how to deal with things properly.

If anyone would like to critique it, I can set up a webex and run through it either individually or a group.

Agenda

    • LBR
    • OBS
    • INT

I'll say it again: by rule, tie does go to the runner in softball.

Yeah, it works out that way, but understanding how you get there is part of the education.

But it shouldn't be part of a myths list, as it is literally correct.

Also, a pet peeve of mine, infield is one word,
so I guess IFF means Infield Fly Frustration.

Well...if you want to be that nitpicky about it, obstruction is only one word. That goes for interference as well. However, you said nothing about OBS and INT.

I do have a short section on softball vocabulary:
Pitcher's Plate not Rubber
Circle not Mound
Illegal Pitch not Balk
etc.;)

"IF" is a common abbreviation for Infield, just like "OF" is Outfield.

But let me ask you a question: What makes you think IFF is InField Fly? :p

Ah, very nice, it could also be "Infield Fly if Fair"!

I thought it was "if and only if."

Math geeks will get it. :D

Since I'm not a blue, I don't post much on here, but enjoy lurking for the educational (and entertainment) value. I think you have a great idea, some thoughts to consider....

Under mythical rules you might also consider discussing fair vs. foul (outfielder standing in fair territory reaches over the foul line attempting a catch and drops the ball, so it must be fair, right?, etc etc)

Maybe also something on ball hits bat on ground vs. bat hits ball (common bunting situation confusion) and something on the (apparently) difficult to comprehend running lane between home and 1B tied into your discussion on OBS, INT, and U3K. Also related are the myths around proper usage of the safety base.

Under lineup management are you planning to cover DP/Flex?

All good suggestions.
Thanks

If that is the premise, those are the first 3 letters of the words, an abbreviation not an acronym. The analogy would then be INFFLY. :p :D

Although I guess Tony's comment ""IF" is a common abbreviation for Infield, just like "OF" is Outfield. " might apply.
