Bottom opf foot Foot pain

Anybody have any ideas about pain I'm getting on the bottom of my feet.
It's the fleshy area between the toes and the arch..

This has happened before.
Saturday did five 1 1/2 hr games (2 base, 3 plates) spread out over 12 hrs.

Feels like a bruise.

I use Honigs plate shoes (which feel bind a little at the sides of the toes) and New Balance for the bases.

Further describing the pain, it kind of feels like my sock is doubled up under that area.

I will be checking with a Doctore... just wondered if anyine here experienced similar symptoms..

Sounds like a bruise or tendonitis.
Ice and advil.
Try taping it to minimize aggravation during games.

I usually get a pain in the *** during games ;-)

Is it in a concentrated area or kind of all over on that part of the foot? If it is concentrated, it could be metatarsal overload. I have that on the second metatarsal and it hurts. The symptoms can flare up if you wear too narrow of shoes. Check the length of your second toe, if it is too long in comparison to your big toe, that can also put extra load on that metatarsal head. Definitely need new shoes if they feel too snug. What size shoe do you normally wear? Regular or wides?

Yes. I have experience just the sort of pain that you described within the past couple of weeks. Mine has since subsided. Let me know what the doc says. I am curious now.

Might be plantar fasciitis. The pain with that is often further back in the foot than what you described but it can occur in a more forward position as well. There is a good bit of info on WebMD about it, including some simple tests you can do that will help determine if that's what you've got. Plantar fasciitis is often associated with runners, but can occur in people who stand a lot and who have flat feet (like me). The treatment usually involves some stretching exercises and putting a special arch support in your shoes which most good athletic shoe stores carry.

Thanks for all the words - it's nice to know others are familiar with similar pain. ;-)

Come on, be honest. You know damn well that most of the pain we umpires get on the field is felt somewhere other than the foot ;)

A co-worker of mine is retiring at the end of the month. He called me up with a question about his laptop, and during the course of conversation, said to me, "Dave, if I could give you one piece of advice, don't ever retire. It's a pain in the a$$."

I immediately responded, "Ken, if that's the case, you're doing it wrong." :D

Yeah, but I know how to deal with those pains :D

HugoTafurst Wed Oct 27, 2010 10:49am

Before I got two sentences out of my mouth, the Dr. said "plantar fasciitis".

Among other things, I'll be checking closer to make sure the shoes are fitting properly and paying more attention to arch support.

I've bought all my shoes on line before, but I think I'll be a good shopper and make sure I have a good fit before I go for it.
I don't anticipate much problem with the base shoes.
Don't know where to walk in for plate shoes except Honigs in Ft. Lauderdale - about 2.5 hrs away...

Thanks for the update. Now I have an idea on what I am dealing with as well.

I had plantar fasciitus but my pain was in my heel. I had cortizone injections but that only took care of the problem for 2 weeks. I have high arches and bought some orthodics and the problem went completely away within 3 days. Dave

I did that, but my mother in law is still here. :(

However, it is strange how the foot can be the origin of a lot of pain and not always in the foot.

According to my Doctor, mostly the pain is in the heel, but my pain in the ball of the foot is also symptomatic.

Cortizone is a possible course of action, but first I'm concentrating on arch shoes that fit properly, support, and ice...

I went out and replaced my 11EE with 11EEEE, going to a medical orthonic place to look for the right arch support.

I'm embarressed to admit that I hadn't paid that much attention to my feet before, but I just went out for a walk in my EEEEs and the difference is amazing...

(enough about my feet, now lets go back to talking about beer);)

I did the same thing. The pain's not 100% gone, but I can call games all day now.

Not a problem. Tomorrow night I'll be on the mall downtown, drinking some Dog Fish Head and Twin Lakes microbrews watching Guitar Shorty play.

Depending on which particular DFH brew, I would say that sounds like a great plan.

I was planning on listening to some great blues myself tonight, but the show was cancelled due to illness. I will still be hanging out at my local, though, consuming some good beers. Right now, I think I am in the mood for a Stone IPA as a starter.

Why? IPAs are not true to tradition.

Who said anything about tradition??? I just stated what I was wanting right about now.

Besides, what "tradition" does DFH adhere to???

I was referring to "India Pale Ale" and those recipes "discovered" a decade or so ago.

Eh well. I am a beer connoisseur, not a beer historian. So, Stone IPA it will be.

I am sure that there are still some traditional IPA's out there, though. The American Pale Ale, now that's a different story.

I doubt it. History of IPA

Hey, it was too cold to enjoy expensive beer (mid-30's) especially since they jacked-up all the prices for the annual "Halloween Loop" when they bus all the kiddies (20-30ish) around the city in costume to get drunk and relatively wild so I settled for commercial domestic when not drinking hot chocolate. I'll make up for it today, though.

However, a young 70-something Guitar Shorty put on a great show and wouldn't stop playing until he was told he had to quit. This guy is extremely good and it is quite evident that he and brother-in-law shared some common talents. If you get an opportunity to see/hear him, I would highly recommend you try to do so.

Wow! On the other hand, I was wearing shorts and sitting out on the patio of my local drinking great beer that night. It was mid-60's by the time I decided to head home. And yes, traditional or not, I did start with a Stone IPA.

Well, there is your tradition, always start with a Stone IPA.

Meanwhile, last week I tried the Blackened Voodoo from Dixie.

Now granted, Dixie is right up their with Iron City and Stegmeier in taste, but Katrina damn near killed them and their recovery only has one direction to go

The Blackened Voodoo was actually quite tasty, not very bitter and finished clean. However, I believe this was a contract brew and not out of NOLA.

The BV is a good beer. We have had it in these parts since the pre-Katrina days. And yes, sadly, since the Dixie Brewery was devastated during the levy breeches(both from the flood and from looting), all of their brewing is now contracted out. I keep hoping for the day of its return.......

I tried the WalMart Dr. Scholl's machine, and bought the cheap ($50) orthotic it prescribed. I've never had the prescription type, but I have received a lot more relief from them than the general shoe inserts that claim to help.

I have to take a look at the Dr. Scholl's.
I bought a pair of New Balance Cross trainer with the proper width (anyone want to buy a pair of 1 yr old New Balance 11 EE??) and then went to a medical supply store where I bought a fitted pair of orthotics for about $50.00 (probably the same type of thing as the Dr. Scholls).

I was on the field for 3 hrs last week / no problem.
I also used them on a 4 day vacation to Pittsburgh and have a 3 game series scheduled Saturday.
They seem to have done the trick.

I picked up a pair of cluncky full support shoes (also with an orthotic arch support) for everyday, so the New Balance can take their place as my full time base shoes.

Now I have to see if I need to replace my plate shoes with a wider version and support them.
I'll find out this weekend.

Honig’s in Ft. Lauderdale May have closed. They are under new ownership and have seen reports that they are closing all location except main office which I believe moved to Colorado..

Go to a real shoe store, not shoe carnival and get fitted for the correct size, double check on the width. Then you can purchase online. Find a Stride Right or something to that nature.
