Fun with Scorekeeper

Sigh. (And for those that read the Home Book is Official thread ... same scorekeeper).

Bases loaded, I am BU. After 2 pitches to the batter, I hear scorekeeper yell time. Unfortunately, my partner calls time and walks over to her. They speak for about 15-20 seconds and I seem my partner point to the coach and start to head back to the plate. She goes to coach and coach calls time, wants to protest batting out of order.

I come in close enough to hear, and to make sure partner is only having to talk to one person. They get near the fence and start looking at the book. Partner seems a little flummoxed, so I ask the girl on 1st to turn around so I can see her number, and then I look at the batter. I ask the huddle - Is #11 listed directly after #6? Someone says yes, I tell partner, "We're good, let's play." I turn around, get back to C ... and they are still talking.

20-30 more seconds and I walk back over, wondering why we're not playing. Scorekeeper is now the loudest of the bunch, as I approach she starts asking why #3 isn't on third, where is #3, etc. I say, "Ma'am, it doesn't matter - but she IS on third. [Partners name], let's play, we're good here. Now she's yelling, "OK, well where's number 10 then? She should be on 2nd." As I'm walking away I say "I don't care - play ball." "Well you don't have to be rude... and you SHOULD care!"

Luckily, 3BCoach is a board member ... I'm PRAYING he addresses this. Partner and I talked and he KNEW not to talk to her at all, but wanted to be "the nice guy" as it was his first time on this field (not is first time anywhere - he's been calling a while, and I'd work with him anytime despite this little issue).

I so wanted to say, "Apparently I DO have to be rude, because you won't shut your mouth otherwise." But I was wise enough to only think it. I did notice after the next walk that it was, indeed, #10 who was on 2nd base afterall.

Sounds like someone needs to get a new score keeper, especially if this is a paid position.

It's not... it's just some random mom from the home team's fans each game.

uhm Mike? A little question: Are you sure she just a random mom?
To me it seems she ain't random at all. You've had twice an issue with her in two different games. To me it to much luck she's picked random to keep the book, while you're on the field. Or... she askes to keep the book because you're on the field!:D

I agree with Skahtboi; they need a new scorekeeper!:o

I guess by random, I meant that before each game, we go to the home side of the field and say, "Who's keeping the book", and give it to whoever chirps first - if no one does, I hand it to the coach on the way in and have him pick someone. So, for this particular team, she's not random - she the one that pipes up. Wonder what happens next week when I ignore her and say, "Anyone, anyone volunteer?"

My partner agreed he gets half the blame for even acknowledging her existence when she called time. He was prewarned by me regarding the previous week's incident and we were both keeping score just in case. Next time, she gets ignored, and if the coach asks about BOO, we'll get the book, step away from the fence and ask the coach what he's protesting.

Or you can put her in the dugout and let the coach deal with her. :D

If she is addressing you on an official matter, she must be part of the team. Well, where are members of the team supposed to be during the game?
