Contacts (vision related)
Getting to that age where my arms arent long enough to read anything anymore. Have had several people hyping either mono vision contacts or bifocal/multi vision contacts. Seems to me the mono vision type having one eye slightly out of focus would cause a lot of problems trying to umpire. People I know that have it say its really no big deal, but, none of them umpire either. Dont really know anyone that has the multi vision to see exactly how they work.
Anyone on the board have experience with either of these and give a little input? |
I also wear contacts (don't let the "rats" know) and have wondered what I will do when my arms become too short. I haven't had personal experience, but the couple of people I know that tried the monovision hated them due to the reason you stated.

Why not just double bag it and carry a pair of reading glasses? Put them on for lineup card related items.

I wear glasses. They have these nice little gadgets called Varilux lenses, as well as Transitions on top of that. I have bifocals that no one can see and sunglasses I never have to remove all in one package!

I've had cataract surgery on both eyes. (Early onset of cataracts is one of those potential "side effects" of chemotherapy that they don't tell you about.) I had the doctor put in one lens calibrated for distance and the other for reading. Works great for me! The brain is an amazing thing -- it accepts the good image and ignores the fuzzy one, no matter what distance I'm focusing on. (I probably lost a little depth perception in the process, but not enough that I notice it.)

Thanks guys. I had Lasik done about 10 years ago and they tried to get me to do mono vision at the time, but the thought of having 1 eye out of focus permanently was not appealing. At least with contacts you can take it out if it is bothering you, but having it done with surgery is kind of permanent. Besides, 10 years ago I didnt need reading glasses anyway.
I may give it a try just to see how it works. If I dont like it I can just take them out and wear my readers. |
