F.Y.I. - Micro cell balls, ASA

Had an issue last night where a team raised the issue that these balls were supposed to be gone, yet there was no documentation from ASA.

So, commish calls CC who states that ASA should have something on-line shortly stating the microcells are not to be used in ASA championship play.

Just thought I'd share.

That's fine. So how do we identify them?

They are the ones that say 'micro-cell' on them with the logo like that on the ball below

Funny how you used a picture of the USSSA ball. :D

I'll be honest, I don't know much about the softballs as I do bats. Do all micro-cell softballs have it written on their covers? Is the Evil Ball the only maker?

I think a more pertinent question is, do they currently exist with ASA certifications?

The rumblings I've heard around the interwebitubes is that ASA asked the manufacturers to stop making them, but that doesn't mean that everyone has depleted their existing supplies.

Oh, yeah. Had a team buy 4 cases toward the end of last season before ASA made any decisions. Trying to talk the local leagues into allowing them this year.

I wonder if we're going to have to carry two lists now: one for the bats, one for the balls. If we do, so be it.

I spoke with Phil this morning about it. His response: "oh boy..." He, just like Mike, know that teams have scores of these softballs.

Any update on this? Haven't seen any updates on the ASA website.

Nope. But don't ask me to explain why my commish would be told one thing and not act as stated. I have no idea why they wouldn't want this word out if it is truly the direction they have chosen to go.

I agree. I'll keep my eyes/ears peeled.
