I wonder if the coach was able to stay and watch the rest of the game from the dugout or the parking lot?

Ok I have to ask. What would you all rule if this happened in a softball game? NFHS has some wording about hurdling a fielder when they are in the prone position only....so what would you rule? Also any ASA opinions would be interesting

Totally legal in ASA. Runner did nothing wrong whatsoever.

In NFHS, he's out.

Baseball:

That was a dive and diving is ALWAYS illegal in NFHS. Hurdling is legal only if the fielder is lying on the ground. Penalty = out.

I could NOT find an equivalent rule in the NFHS softball rules - or maybe just looking in the wrong place.

I'm curious about this "dive" concept. In NFHS if a runner slides head first, is this a "dive" and therefore illegal?

I see this:

Rule 2-52 Art. 1... Legal Slide. A legal slide may be either feet first or head first. yada, yada...

Didn't see anything in the Illegal Slide about "diving".

8.6.10 Note Jumping, hurdling and leaping are all legal attempts to avoid a fielder only if the fielder is lying on the ground.

The statement is a note following 8-6-10.
That is the only reference I can find to leaping, jumping or hurdling.

The question this brings up in (what's left of my) (possibly over thinking) mind
is that the NOTE is following the inteference rule, making me think that the act is prohibited because it would be possible cause of interference.
