Did you know? ASA Height
ASA was originally 3' from release to 10' maximum height. It was this way until the mid-70's when they went to an unlimited arc . After a year or so of complaining, ASA moved to revert back to a more hittable pitch.
However, USSSA had already entered the market (1968, it think) and had used the same rule as the original in ASA. Apparently, ASA wanted to come back to something different, so they went to the 6-12 arch where it has been until now. |
I called USSSA for two years ('95 and '96) as a favor to a local umpiring and volleyball mentor. Back then, there were VERY few differences between ASA's and USSSA's rules. The wording would be different, but the general effect of the rules ended up the same. USSSA tends to use more "common speak," while ASA tends to use more "legalese." 6 of one, half dozen the other.
Though times have certainly changed since then. And yes, according to their website, they were chartered in 1968 in my home state of Wisconsin. |
Now 6' - 10'
