making a play

Probably came up here before but here goes. NCAA rules. As far as an unreported sub on defense it says if the player has made a play. Is the pitcher throwing a pitch considered making a play? Dave

In NCAA....No. A pitch is not considered a play.

1.96 Play An attempt by a defensive player on a batted or thrown ball to retire a runner or a batter-runner. A pitch is not a play except as it relates to an appeal play.

Guess it would help if I had read that part of the rulebook. Dave

I looked in my rule book and it states that it is an appeal for an unreported sub. So in this case, a pitch is a play. Dave
