I would take that a step farther. When you remove a bat from the game, it is for safety reasons. If a player brings an illegal bat into the game, I would have no problem ejecting them for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Using that bat not only defies the rules and the umpire who removed the bat, but possibly places the welfare of all the players, coaches and umpires, not to mention the spectators, in jeopardy.

When you dump a piece of equipment, do in loudly and make sure the manager/coach is aware of it so there are no excuses later in the game.

The bat issue in softball is as much about liability, insurance and litigation as it is about competition, inflated egos and softball.
