Rec fastpitch, ASA rules. Local rule for a 5 run per inning limit. I was watching, not calling the game.

2 outs. 4 runs have scored in the half-inning. Bases loaded.

The following happens in this order:

BR draws a base on balls. 3rd base coach yells, "That's five." BR does not advance to 1B, but turns toward the dugout. R1 crosses home. BR enters the dugout. All defensive players leave the field of play. Defensive coach tells the umpire the run should not score since the BR entered the dugout for the 3rd out. PU says he will not honor the appeal since all defensive players have left the field.

I say (to myself), "This is not an appeal play. The umpire should have called the BR out as soon as she entered the dugout, and disallowed the run."

What do you say?

I be in agreement with you Tom........

The BR should have been "even though they were NOT" called out for going into DB area.........

I don't care if the D had left the field..........

BTW............where the hell have you been????

I have been needing some Adobe help...........grin

Since R3 advances to home on an award (base on balls, bases loaded), the run scores.

Two relevant case book examples

Play 8.2-11

Two outs, R1 on 3B, R2 on 2B, R3 on 1B, the batter receives ball four and goes toward the dugout. All runners advance and R1 touches home plate prior to the batter-runner entering dead ball area.

Ruling:

(FP) On ball four, the ball remains alive. When the batter enters dead ball area, he is declared out. This is the third out and the run is nullified (8-2D; 5-5B)

(SP) On ball four, the ball is dead. No penalty for entering the dead ball area, all runners advance and the run scores unless a proper appeal is made at 1B. (8-2D; 5-5A).

Play 8.2-12

(FP Only) One out, R1 on 3B, R2 on 2B, R3 on 1B, the batter receives ball four and goes into the dugout. R1 is tagged by the catcher before he touches home.

Ruling: Ball is live. Batter runner is out for entering dead ball territory. Runner from third is out for being tagged off base as the force is removed. (8-2D; 8-8B)

I've been on vacation for 2 weeks - one week at Edisto Beach in SC, and another at the Disney money machine in Orlando.

Thanks... very good case book research.
