gotta love this forum
This might get lengthy...please bear with me...I have always respected the posting here and the insight offered by the more experienced officals is priceless...worked a tourney this weekend and am getting more confident about my abilities to offer a good job at officiating for the UIC...what I enjoy alot is when you discover another layer to the onion and mine was a runner being hit by a ball...as the base ump I got it right but for the wrong reason...R1 on 1st, F3 ahead of base, F4 cheating toward 2nd, ball is hit between F3 & F4, contacts R1...deadball R1 out...coach loudly says passes fielder...oh god what am I missing
let play stand and continue on...later do some rules study and realize he was right but that F4 had a chance to make play...so ruling was right but for wrong reason...what is the first thing I read but a couple of different threads about this very rule...lo and behold Irish and NCASAUMP are posting...thanks people for making me a better offical.

Just one thing to remember. It must be an opportunity for the second fielder to make an out, not just a play. It seems like a small difference, but if you get it wrong or use the wrong words in an explanation and you have a protest on your hands.
Good job. |
