Musings from the USA/ASA 18A in Las Vegas

- 2:58 was the longest game of the tournament. No, that wasn't even extra innings. Yes, I was 3BU on that game.
- 129 bats were removed from play during equipment checks. The most pulled bat: White/Purple Easton Stealth.
- Average daily ambient air temp: 109. Average on-field temp: 120 - 125.
- Average daily water and gatorade consumption by me (and most tournament umpires): 2 to 2.5 gallons.
- 139 teams, 12 fields (14 on busy day), ~80 umpires
- Most games worked in one day by any umpire: 5. Number of umpires who worked 5 games in one day: 1. Most anyone else got: 4
- Average temperature inside the air conditioned umpire trailer: 85 (and it felt like heaven!)

I'll think of more here in a few hours, but this is a start.

I haven't decided if I should call it from the dugout or the outfield. Apparently, both have really great views!

Screw green, it ain't easy being blue!

I won't be coming here that much anymore. I might check in now and again.

I knew i should have asked who was there....I stopped by on Saturday and Sunday to see some friends of mine who worked the tourney. Only watched 1 whole game-the Sunday morning 2nd/3rd place game. Any chance you were working that game.

I followed most of your postings on facebook, but I meant to ask you - which fields/complexes did they use?

I have been to Vegas twice for the big showcase in June and some of the fields they are forced to use to accomodate that many teams are crap.....

They're new fields called Majestic Park, a 12 field complex built about 2 years ago. On Alexander, way the eff up in the hills in NW Vegas. Great view, tho. Way out past Doc Romeo.

Unfortunately, no. I was there watching, however. For that game, I was hovering around the 3rd base side, watching the angry/upset/happy/cheerful/a$$h0le with the video camera right behind the backstop.

Crap, sorry I didn't get to introduce myself. My brother and I watched from the picnic tables in right center. Talked to the winners bracket coach for awhile.

Aah - you found the only shade in the outfield. So you probably heard the story about the 3rd place team?

Nope. The only story I heard was a protest that went against a friend of mine.
