Swap'em
We're moving along in the local 14U tourney. I'm PU. Coach who is using the Dp/Flex comes out and tells me to swap his DP/Flex. I know it sounds like drop to 9 leaving the flex in for the DP but.....
So I have never heard this before. I have heard just about every possible way to describe dropping to 9 but never this one. Coach acted like I had lobsters coming out of my head when I further questioned him about exactly what he wanted to do. We got where we needed to go but has anyone else had a coach use that terminology...."Swap Em". |
Never heard it stated that way. What was the coach trying to do?
It sounds like it would be illegal, with a true 'swap' having the DP playing only defense and the FLEX hitting only. Also, it is ambiguous. The DP could be going in on defense for the FLEX or the FLEX could be hitting in the DP's spot. Either would drop them to 9. |
Not sure I know the answer to this, but wouldn't an actual "swap" also, in effect, change their batting order?
Methinks illegal. |
Just what i thought. He was confused and tried to play it off on me....He kind of put on a very little show showing his frustration with me not knowing what the "Swap'em" meant. After I asked him a couple of questions I got it down to he wanted his flex to bat for his DP.

So, when the half inning is over, and I ask you to "flip that back", I trust you will understand

But I always take it in baby steps. Coach: Flip that back : Chess Ref: So you want to reenter the DP in the game and go back to 10 players coach ? Coach : Ugh , yea.... Chess Ref: Thanks coach.... |
