UW - Danielle Lawrie

At our local tourney this weekend, Danielle and her parents stopped by to watch a 23U team play. The team has 5 UW players, so she came to check it out and greet local fans. Totally a non-advertised thing.

Anyway, I'm off inbetween games, wearing my WSU jacket and hat. Danielle's dad Russ spots me as they're leaving the complex and tries to get me to have Danielle sign my WSU hat. We all laughed, but I wasn't too game on having the UW stud deface my WSU hat with her sharpie. :D So I grabbed a new tournament ball and had her sign it instead.

Aah good times, and the benefit of having the best team in the country right here. :)

I've picked up Jessica Mendoza's boy.

I've had lunch With Jenny Finch (not 1 on 1 but she was at our table with my wife and DD)
I've stood with Cat while she signed autograph after autograph.

I've worked the Busto's elite team with Crystal and her dad George as the coach many many times.

NEver once asked for a single autograph.

What if I have to call one of their games?

I may be in dream land that I could get that call. . but I Think you're a little star struck there brother. ;)

Not at all. I wasn't even going to shake her hand or say anything to her. It wasn't until after her dad came up to me as they were leaving that I even considered having her sign anything. Then I gave the ball away to someone, so it's not like there's any "star struckness" going on at all.

I understand though...

You have a lot to be proud of. Its like the first time in any sport at any level where anyone from your state actually won.

Frame that bad boy.. prolly be the last.

We had the Olympic team here for one of their tune-up games last year - after the game, my wife & I along with one of the other umps went to dinner. A little later, several of the team walked in & had dinner too. They recognized that we were a couple of the umpires. Part of my contribution to their cause was that I bought their dinner that night.

Nawh, the Supersonics had a national championship back in like 1979. But then we sold the team to OKC last year, so yeah... frame what we got. ;)

I try to treat notorious people (celebrities) with indifference. I played in a pickup game with Gus Williams from the Sonics champ. team. Autograph? Hell, he can ask for mine!

Worked a Feb. tournament in Baton Rouge 3 years ago where she was called for 17 IPs in the championship game. Coach Tarr decided she'd seen enough and asked to be excused. Had Lawrie the next summer when she was with the Canadian team and she had fixed her IP problem. Great pitcher and pretty good hitter.

If it makes ya feel any better, my partner ran her dad when Danielle was about 15...daddyo was the scorekeeper and didn't like my partner's zone. Coach wouldn't run him so poofers out he went.
